A Special Gift

I love the Peanuts movies, I have watched most if not all of them. A Charlie Brown Christmas and Snoopy Come Home are amazing, but my favorite is probably What Have We Learned, Charlie Brown?. It's the one when Charlie Brown is reminiscing about a trip to France when he was an exchange student, I think it was a memorial day special. It tells the stories of D-day and Flanders Field through the narration of Linus--it's probably where I first learned about these stories. Linus was great at that.
For Christmas my mom bought it for me. They don't sell it on DVD so she found the VHS on ebay, I'm sure she bought it for like 3 times what most DVDs cost. It was brand new. I am so happy she got it for me, though I am terrified I am going to damage the tape, VHS' stretch out over time and this one is as old as I am.
I just watched it and despite it being a lot shorter and simpler than I remember, I still love it. I wish I knew how to transfer it to DVD.
Thanks Mom, it was a wonderful and thoughtful gift.

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
